"Search Engine Optimization" - A new study has identified search engine optimization as an increasingly dominant marketing channel with the vast majority of online retailers surveyed by Practical eCommerce claiming the practice is important to their business.

According to Tom Demers, director of marketing at WordStream, search engine optimization (SEO) will become "the most cost-efficient and broadly effective form of marketing - digital or otherwise".

It's easy for Demers to make such a statement after a poll by Practical eCommerce revealed that 95% of online retailers see SEO as an important business and marketing tool.

Around 83% of respondents said their websites were currently optimized for search engines.

Demers also noted that social media will have a key role to play in SEO going forward, claiming that relationship-building is advantageous for the channel.

The search engine marketing software company's "WordStream Keyword Management for SEO" tool has recently been selected as an Editor's Pick in the Google Analytics Application Gallery.
